VA Simplified Online Sign-in Experience

2024-09-09

Over the next year, starting at the end of 2024, the VA is transitioning to a streamlined online login process for Veterans to access benefit and healthcare services on the VA.gov site and mobile app. This change is an effort to keep Veterans’ identities safe online through multifactor authentication to reduce identity theft and misuse of medical information. The VA is also strengthening its security features due to the amount of identity theft and fraud targeting Veterans.

Beginning in 2025, you will need to use the Login.gov or ID.me account to log in. If you are currently using Login.gov or ID.me, you won’t need to make the change. However, if you do not use either of these accounts, you will need to begin the transition to Login.gov or ID.me to continue accessing your online data with the VA.

If you use MyHealthyVet, you will no longer be able to use your username and password starting January 31, 2025, or DS Logon starting September 30, 2025, without a Login.gov or ID.me account.

See how to create a Login.gov and/or ID.me accounts here: Creating an Account for VA.gov | Veterans Affairs.
