Founded in 2010, Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) supports Veterans and the military community in achieving mental and physical well-being through in-person and virtual opportunities, including a community-building app. The organization was started to help Veterans transition from military to civilian life, and has evolved to promote a holistic approach to physical and mental fitness for the entire military community.
To discuss what Team RWB does to encourage mental and physical fitness, Sarah Bumgardner, AAFMAA Director of Partnerships and Member Engagement, spoke with Mike Erwin, Team RWB founder and current Executive Director. Erwin is a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, assigned to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he is an Assistant Professor. A 2002 graduate of The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he was commissioned there as an officer and went on to serve three combat tours with the First Cavalry Division and 3rd Special Forces Group. Erwin co-authored “Lead Yourself First,” published by Bloomsbury Press in 2017. Erwin, his wife Genevieve and their five children live on a 32-acre farm in North Carolina.
Team RWB has chapters throughout the country. The community is open to Veterans, active-duty servicemembers, and their families. Members join for free, and by using the Team RWB app, can find local events, virtual challenges, and monthly missions.
